Description
Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Director of Academic Programs is responsible for the delivery of quality instruction; establishing academic policies and procedures, developing quality academic programs and corporate training initiatives; and, performing other administrative and advisory functions as required in support of student success. The Director oversees program quality assurance and evaluation; is responsible for developing degree proposals for Executive review and approval; is a member of Academic Council; and, is the primary institutional contact for government and industry partners with respect to academic programs, proposals and initiatives.
Qualifications, Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will possess a terminal qualification (PhD, DBA or EdD), at least five years of relevant and progressive teaching and administrative experience; strong interpersonal skills; and, be current with respect to teaching and learning innovations and trends. The ideal candidate will be energetic and passionate about teaching and learning, and, be able to clearly and effectively present academic concepts, plans and proposals to a wide variety of audiences. The Director will also be responsible for developing new curricula across a multi-disciplinary institutional network while also managing programs delivered in Vancouver and Richmond. The new Director will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Working with the Executive and academic teams to develop and implement a 5-year academic plan that will be presented for approval to the Board of Directors;
- Working collaboratively within VPC to update and maintain relevant policy manuals for all VPC institutions inclusive of the procedures required to ensure effective administration;
- Working collaboratively with Academic Counsel and Management Committee to establish the institutional capacity required for significant growth of VPC over the next five years;
- Working with the Executive and faculty members to design and develop innovative academic and community programming as well as corporate training and professional development initiatives designed to meet the needs of VPC’s communities and the BC workforce;
- Working with the Chief Academic Officer to recruit excellent faculty and to establish the criteria for faculty and program evaluation that will ensure quality and student success;
- Ensuring effective communication with faculty and VPC departments by supporting open and transparent engagement among all VPC instructors and staff at all levels of the organization;
- Working within the BC post-secondary education system to promote VPC’s quality programs to increase the number of quality articulation agreements and pathway programs for students interested in pursuing advanced studies with one of VPC’s articulation partner institutions;
- Other duties as assigned.
