STEAM Boot Camp - Design Process

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design and Math) Design Process Boot Camp enables Grade 8-12 students to complete design process courses that are linked to non-credit general admission college requirements and address immediate and future workforce needs. This innovative program enables Grade 8-12 students to gain foundational knowledge, insight, and understanding of the Engineering design process as it relates to mathematical and scientific reasoning, research and evaluative skills, knowledge analysis, synthesis, and integration theoretical knowledge applied to practice working together as essential employability and life skills including but not limited to critical thinking, problem solving, and communications.

Students in grades 8 through 12 (ages 12 to 18) will have the opportunity to work with STEAM educators from UBC and SFU here at the VPC Richmond campus.

The STEAM Design process program enables students to complete a range of Science, Technology, Math, entry level Engineering courses that will help to inform their decisions regarding their future field of study and/or career path. Design Process students will also be able to gain a strong foundation from which they may pursue advanced study at the degree and/or professional level.  

Program Themes

1. Creative Design Process Camp

  • Develop your cooperation, tool use, communication, sketching, and design improvement skills through practical application as you learn.
  • Discover how to cultivate acceptance of the social responsibilities that come with increased learning.

2. Digital Design Process Camp

  • What’s the big deal? Investigate artificial intelligence, augmented reality (AR), cybersecurity, and digital marketing to find out for yourself.
  • Discover ways to modify, enhance, and redesign in order to meet a particular need in the real world.
  • This intensive boot camp will equip you with the skills necessary to work and communicate with confidence.

Time & Location
Boot camp hours are from 9:00AM to 3:00PM, Monday to Friday; except when there is a stat holiday, which will then be 4 days a week.

*Includes a Friday lunch. Other days the students must bring their own lunch.
**You can select to do both the Creative and Digital boot camps on different start dates.

Registration Deadlines
Registration for each program will close at 11:59 PM on the Sunday the week before the program begins.

 

Note: This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. As such, PTIB did not review this program
