Vancouver Premier College of Arts and Science delivers courses in the Arts, Humanities, social, computer, information and management sciences. The General Studies Diploma program is the most flexible academic program delivered by the College and enables students to choose academic courses that are most relevant to both their personal and professional interests and goals while also facilitating the acquisition of workforce skills that are forecast to be in high demand in the BC employment market for the next decade. The General Studies program provides students with a range of choices of specialization and/or enables students to choose their own educational pathway from a range of courses selected from several academic disciplines.

General Studies Diploma

The General Studies Diploma is a flexible 60 credit program which enables students to choose a variety of 100 and 200 level courses that are most relevant to their personal interests as well as their professional and career goals. Over the course of the program, General Studies Diploma students will gain a breadth of discipline-specific knowledge as well as important career related skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, communication (both written and oral), collaboration and teamwork, and, contextual, situational and cultural analysis. The breadth of courses contained in the General Studies Diploma program enables students to develop a strong academic foundation from which they may choose to pursue advanced study in Arts, Science, Education, Business or Law and/or to immediately enter the workforce.

Academic Foundations

This program is focused on improvement in grammar skills with a multi-skills focus on reading, writing, and communication skills essential in an academic setting. A review of English grammar through intensive written and oral practice to promote accurate and appropriate language use for students who have already studied grammar to basic level and need to refine the ability to produce acceptable academic English. The program will improve students’ knowledge of English language and develop key skills for the workplace as well. This program can also help students to communicate more effectively by offering a flexible and balanced approach of language and skills training that they can immediately use to improve their performance in studies or job search in order to reflect the real world as closely as possible.

This program is based on authentic material like videos and articles from big media organizations such as BBC and Financial Times. Each unit in the courses is comprised of lesson outcomes and self assessment, vocabulary, functional language, grammar, listening and videos reading, speaking, writing, pronunciation and reviews.
